Nissan Repair: brake system bleeding, rear wheels, four wheels

Question
Hi Calvin can you tell me what I'm doing wrong. Replaced my front brakes on my 94 Altima to find my left caliper (driver side) was leaking got rebuild kits for both sides repair them and put them on, bleed all four wheels twice and still my brake goes almost to the floor before it stops and it feels spongy, did I stuppedly put the calipers visa versa?and how can i tell? and I might of let the master cylinder go below the minimum line and got air in it,can you tell me how to go about doing it correct. I read that if I bleed my rear wheels whit one pressure cycle for both wheels and alternate between both then that will align the rods in my vacuum to put equal pressure in al four wheels? is this true? any help you can send my way will be appreciated. Thanks JCC

Answer
Hi Juan -

I doubt if you did, but to check if the calipers are reversed, note the bleeder screws, it should be at the top of the calipers.

First of all, bleed the master cylinder. If you have a bench bleeder kit, that would be optimal. Only costs a few dollars at the auto store. If not, then the best way to get air out of the master is to bleed it this way:

Remove one line. Have someone press the brake pedal all the way to the floor and hold it there. Put your thumb firmly over the inlet where you removed the line. Have your helper release the pedal. Remove your thumb. Have your helper depress the pedal slowly to the floor again. Place your thumb over the inlet and release the brake once again. Repeat this process FOR EACH LINE connected to the master until you have a steady flow of fluid coming out when the pedal is depressed. Do not let the master go dry.

If the pedal is still low, then you will have to repeat this process for each wheel, starting from the right rear of the vehicle. (open bleeder screw, have someone press the brake pedal to the floor, close bleeder screw, release brake, repeat process until a steady flow of fluid comes out).

Hope this helps -
