Nissan Repair: 1994 Nissan Maxima transmission, nissan maxima, valve body

Question
Hello.

I have an automatic 1994 Nissan Maxima.  Recently, while driving on several occassions while trying to accelerate, the transmission failed to engage.  The engine revved up to 4000 to 5000 RPM but the car did not accelerate at all until I let go of the pedal and pressed again then the transmission did engage.  Can you please give me some advice about this condition and what might the reason for this problem?  Thanks.

Answer
Zak,

The transmission could be low on fluid.  The fluid could be dirty.  Or, the valve body, specifically the governor, could be sticking.  So, first check the fluid, change the fluid and if these do not work take it to a shop and have the valve body and governor looked at.
