Nissan Repair: PO745, nissan altima, trans shop

Question
1998 Nissan Altima. The service engine light came on. Had it checked with one of the machines and it gave the code PO745. I was told to take it to a trans. shop to get it fixed. Fluid level is ok. Car is running good. It had sat for 3 days, that's unusual. Is this something I need checked like, NOW. I don't want to be stranded on the side of the road. At the same time, I don't have money for repairs. The nearest certified trans. shop is like 40 miles away.  Will there be warning signs or something to look for? I've read on forums that there is hard shifting between gears when this code shows up but my car is not doing that. So any info you can give me will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Answer
Hi Janez -

The code means Pressure solenoid malfunction on the transmission. If you are not getting shifting problems, perhaps it is just a nuisance code. Try resetting it and see if it returns. I think Autozone will do it for free. Don't know if you have one in your area.

Otherwise it should not be a matter of life and death, maybe hard shifting as you mentioned, as this solenoid mointors trans oil pressure, relative to the shifting pattern.

Hope this helps -
