Nissan Repair: Antennae motor 97 pathfinder, antenna mast, mud guards

Question
I recently bought a 97 pathfinder and the antennae would go down if pulled out but not go up. I got a new antennae and fed the plastic cable into the motor as directed. It went in fine but still will not come out. Now whenever I turn off the radio the antennae motor runs making a buzzing/grinding noise for about ten seconds as if gears were running over the plastic teeth. Do I need to replace the motor and if so, how do I get to it to replace it. Do I need to remove the passenger door and some of the fender??

Answer
Hi Warren -

In reading your email, it looks like you di not remove the assembly to install the antenna mast (cable)?

The mast replacement is done by removing the entire assembly and opening the housing where the motor is. Then the mast is threaded on the spool, and gears to the motor are meshed. The motor assembly is accessed by removing the plastic mud guards iin the fenderwell of the vehicle.

Hope this helps -
