Nissan Repair: 97 Nissan Maxima steering jerks in final gear, nissan maxima, accelerator pedal

Question
My 97 Nissan Maxima has a slight jerk in the steering once it shifts into its final gear.  It's an automatic.  Is this a motor mount issue?  What can be done and approximately how much money am I looking at?

Answer
Hi Kevin -

It could be the mounts, or it could be the transmission.

Please do this test. Engine on, in drive, brake firmly applied. Press the accelerator pedal slowly then release the pedal and notice the engine. If the engine rises and "thumps" back down, then you will have to replace the mount. Do the same with the car in reverse.

If it is a 1997, you might want to replace all the mounts, including the transmission mount. Should run you a couple hundred dollars estimated.

Hope this helps -
