Nissan Repair: nissan sentra tranny question, nissan sentra, cottman transmission


Question
i have a 1999 nissan sentra automatic.109,000 miles.was driving and the PRM went from normal to all the way to top(red mark).stop the card,waited few minutes,started the car and RPM was fine but could not drive more than 45MPH without the RPM going very high.got home.after a while started the car and RPM was normal,But the reverse(R) is not working.it will drive forward(D), but not in reverse.checked the oil and color look OK,do not smell burn

Sounds like the transmission is locked into second gear and that is what is keeping the car running like at readline.  This is a fail safe mode to keep from hurting the transmission.  I would take it to a shop to see what the problem is.  From what you say the transmission has a servo or two that is out of wack and that is causing the problem.  Have a Cottman Transmission or your local shop check out what is going on with the transmission.
