Nissan Repair: Knocking problem, nissan pathfinder, valve lifter

I have Nissan Pathfinder 1989. 2.4 engine
When the engine is cold, I can hear some noise that sound like distributor chain. Not constant noise. First I thought that's some valve lifter (because it has some timing, rhythm) or some of the belt rollers. But seems it's not that, I checked valves and removed belts, noise is same. Did you have some similar experience? Thanks

i would suggest to replace the timing chain guides, and possibly consider replacing the chain in the near future.  it has stretched and is hitting the cover.  after warmup the chain is tighter and im assuming this noise goes away when the engine is warm?  also replace your tensioners.  let me know how it turns out.  xxp_sebby@yahoo.com  happy holidays.
