Nissan Repair: surge, mass air flow, oil wick

Question
i have a 1994 nissian pickup that surges when the gas is pressed it will idle fine the fuel pump pressure is 70 i have replaced the mass air flow and the tps and the coolent temp sensor and it still surges

Answer
Dwayne,

I would most certainly think the distributor is cutting out.  Nissan uses an optical trigger in the distributor and when it gets this old the seal lets oil wick up the shaft and onto the optics.  It feels like it is surging but what is going on is the spark is weak due to oil on the optics.  Disassemble the distributor, take the cap, rotor, rotor post and cover off and look at the disc and the optics for oil.  It there is oil get a rebuilt distributor.
