Nissan Repair: Nissan Suspension, cv axles, low speed

Question
When I am traveling at low speed and turning fairly sharp, I hear and feel a clicking noise coming from my front wheels. Both boots are cracked. What causes this clicking? Is there something I can do to help the situation before replacing the boots? Thank you

Answer
Hi Todd -

That clicking is probably coming from your CV axles. I would strongly suggest replacing the entire CV half shafts instead of just the boots. You will benefit for 2 reasons:

1. Once the boot is cracked, the joint inside is compromised. Any dust or dirt entering will damage the joint, and just changing the boot will lock all the debris inside.

2. A rebuilt half shaft is not that expensive. I did not get the year and make of your car, but I can get rebuilt half shafts here in hawaii for as low as $50 each. Since the shaft has to be removed to replace the boot anyway, it would be more beneficial to replace the entire shaft.

Hope this helps -
