Nissan Repair: 2001 nissan Altama, nissan altama, heater hoses

Question
When we replaced the thermastat the houseing screw hole broke, we temperairly repaired that with allumium tape, it still leaks some, but now even though this is repaired, it still runs hot, but now the heater will not blow hot air, the heater/AC was fine before, and I dont know why the radiator still overheats, repaced the radiator cap as well and got something called a tempature regulator wire, But I dont know how to install that. help me please

Answer
Sheryl,

Get the bolt hole repaied by using a Helicoil to renew the threads.  If the system cannot pressurize the car will still overheat since it cannot pressurize.  I would not bother with a regulator wire.  Most of these are a sacrificial annode that allows corrosion to form on the wire and not the engine or cooling system.  Just change the fluid every two years and the cooling system will be fine.  The heater does not work because air is trapped in the system.  To rid the system of trapped air loosen one of the heater hoses at the firewall and allow the air to bleed out until antifreeze comes out.  Tighten the hose and the heater should be fine.  But, first and foremost get the thermostat bolt hole corrected so the system will not leak and it will be allowed to pressurize.
