Nissan Repair: 2000 Nissan Quest, interference engine, engine rpms

Question
The timing belt broke on my 2000 Nissan Quest. I'm getting mixed information from different web sites about the engine. Is the VG33E Engine interference or non-interference? If it is non-interference and hopefully there is no damage to the heads I will probably replace the belt myself. But if it is interference and there is head damage I will most likely take it to a shop for repair.

Answer
Gus,

It is an interference engine and I would have the heads checked out before spending the time and money on a timing belt.  Now, I have seen it both ways where a timing belt would break and the valves would be bent and at another time a different Quest the valves were fine.  I am thinking that engine RPMs have to do with the valves contacting the pistons.  If the belt let loose on the freeway the valves are probably bent.
