Nissan Repair: check engine light, gasoline vapors, charcoal canister

Question
I have check engine light on and the code is  P1490 Vacuum Cut Valve Bypass Valve (Circuit)

Answer
Muris,

This code is for the evaporative canister control valve.  Most probably it needs to be replaced.  In the back of the vehicle there is a charcoal canister that traps gasoline vapors and when the car is started it (the valve) opens and allows the engine to suck the vapors in and burn them off.  After a time (20 plus seconds) the valve closes.  The computer is reading that it no longer has control of this valve.  About $100 for the valve plus the labor to install.  rockauto.com or courtesyparts.com are both good on-line sources that I use.  Or, your local parts store or dealer.  It is a job you could do yourself if you have the tools and a Chilton manual or factory service manual to follow the step by step process to replace yours.
