Nissan Repair: 1995 Nissan Pathfinder Rear Caliper, blue lable, black lable

Question
I have a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder SE 4wd with the rear drivers side caliper seized. I have bought the new caliper, but cannot figure out how to get the caliper unbolted from the arm or pin that it swings out on. I have been able to change pads on this before, but that was easy, unbolt one bolt and then swing the caliper on the arm. Oh, this unit has ABS and is of course a 4 wheel disc.

Answer
Darren,

Two bolts hold the caliper to the torque member.  Remove these, disconnect the hose, disconnect the parking brake and then the caliper will come off.  Look at the replacement one and you will see where the extra bolts are...  The ABS is nothing more than a sensor that is part of the harness on the backing plate.  There is tone ring that spins with the axle and the sensor picks up on the fact that the tone ring is spinning.  Sort of like magnets spinning by each other.  This does not have to be disturbed to remove the caliper.  Having discs on the back make it easier.  Be sure to bleed the brake system once you are done.  I like Ford High Performance (DOT3) brake fluid since it has twice the boiling point of regular DOT 3.  Pick up two pints from a Ford dealer for about $5 bucks a pint.  You have to ask for it by name since they will try to sell you the regular brake fluid.  Black lable on a white bottle.  If they try to sell you the blue lable it is regular.
