Answer
Keanu,

The variable valve timing controls the camshaft advance and retard.  The actual control is automatic with the oil pressure.  The sensor makes sure it works.  If you had the sensor changed and you still have the problem that would mean the cam is sticking in an advanced position.  I say this since you have a car that dies at idle.  Too much advance and the car will not run at idle.  You could have dirty oil that woul dplug the advance port where the oil comes in or the eccentric itself could be defective.  The only way to know for sure is to get the code read and probably have the valve cover removed and the cam advance diagnosed.  Now, do not get mw wrong, I think the shop did the right thing by replacing the sensor first.  But, the code should have went away.  Also, this could be another code as a connection could have been dislodged during the replacement of the sensor.  You need the code read to know what code is now set.
