Nissan Repair: nissan air conditioners, nissan maxima, engine vacuum

Question
I'm looking to buy a 1998 nissan maxima. While test driving the car, I noticed the air conditioning vents blew more air from the side vents and not so much through the center vents. What could this problem be? Would it be expensive to repair?

Answer
Hi Joyce -

In the ductwork of the A/C system there are several doors and dampers that direct and channel the air through, depending on what setting you have the system on. These doors are run by engine vacuum. They might be binding or it is losing vacuum.

Not a hard thing to check but access is a challenge.

Hope this helps -
