Nissan Repair: 1998 maxima RPM, air control valve, vacuum leaks

Question
Von, I notice that on start up the rpm goes up and down. it then holds a 2500rpm until it warms up. Is this normal? I also notice my over drive switch is not working(can't cut OD off. Thanks for the previous answers they helped alot.

Answer
Kingsley,

Check for vacuum leaks first and be sure the throttle body is clean.  The idle going up and down is usually caused by a sticking idle air control valve.  Cleaning the valve body should correct the jumping idle.  If not remove and clean or replace the idle air control valve.  The high idle is normal until warm.  But, not that high.  That leads back to the idle air control valve.
