Nissan Repair: Nissan Sentra 2001 acting up, nissan sentra 2001, nissan sentra

Question
Hello,

I have a 2001 nissan sentra that has been acting very odd lately.
it has 94,000 miles on it and has recently been not starting occasionally.  The check engine light is NOT on, but it wont start the other day.  I towed it to a shop and they started it right up.  It ran fine with out incident.  then the next day I started it and it hesitated and the ck engine  light flashed but it went right away.   I drove it to work and it was fine. then i went to start it and it would not start.  It had rained so i let it sit and then it started.  While driving it was hesitating at 55-60 then it would run fine.  it did this onn and off but wiht not check engine light.   I replaced the cap, rotor, wires, and spark plugs and it started ok.   But it still lost power at differnet speeds 45, 55,65, but then ran ok.  went to start it agin this am and it wont start now.

Could this be a fuel pump or similar ?  without the ck engine light i cant tell if it is a sensor or not.  If it is a fuel pump beig bad then how can it run fine and then only loose power at certian speeds..

Thank you

Answer
William,

You are looking at the distributor as the most common problem.  If there is oil on the optical shutter wheel, under the distributor post and cover, you need to replace it with a rebuilt unit.  If there is no oil then you need to look at the fuel pump and fuel pump relay.  Most of the time the issue is with one of these.
