Nissan Repair: electrical problem with taco..........., nissan pulsar, electrical problem

Question
NISSAN PULSAR 1999 AUTO SEDAN

Hi,
I seem to be having issues with my speedometer. While I'm driving the needle on the taco swings to the right and says I'm doing 160km the rpm taco needle goes to zero and the temperature goes to cold. When this happens theres a change in the revs it seems to rev higher like its dropped a gear.
On occasion the needle swings the other way and sticks on 80km rpm goes to 3 and temperature tells me its overheated. Sounds like my car needs a priest lol.
I would appreciate your expert opinion as I'm stuck!

Answer
Brenda,

Either the cluster harness needs to be cleaned or you need to replace the transformer/resistor on the cluster back.  You can remove the cluster and clean the harness connection with a soft eraser and blow off the dust and reinstall it.  If that does not correct the problem then the transformer/resistor on the back of the cluster is defective.  A wrecking (breaker) yard is the best source for a used unit.
