Nissan Repair: 1994 Nissan Pathfinder, nissan pathfinder, haynes manual

Question
QUESTION: All of the sudden my Pathfinder will not start and run. It cranks strong. Fuel pump is working and the filter I just replaced a month ago. I checked the fuses, relays and spark. The check engine light is off. Like I said it was fine earlier then I drove it about 200 miles. Parked it for an hour. Tried to start it and it would not run. No symptoms of anything slowly failing. Any suggestions would help. Thanks.

ANSWER: Mike,

You are going to have to work from the basics here.  It sounds like it jumped timing or that the crank position sensor is defective.  If you have spark and fuel you need to check base timing to see if the timing belt jumped a tooth.  Check the timing and email me back.  To do this remove number one sparkplug and insert your finger or listen for the air to escape when cranked.  Well, actually someone will have to bump it over with the key while you listen.  When air starts to escape the number one hole stop.  Now, hand crank the engine to top dead center on the crankshaft.  Remove the distributor cap and note its location.  Now you will need to remove the upper timing cover and check where the belt is.  The dots need to line up in the holes with the pointers.  Get a Haynes Manual or factory service manual for diagrams and directions.

QUESTION: Ok. I was told that is a possibility. Earlier I did some other checks. One was the fuel pressure which was @ 60 psi. Higher than the manufactures specs. Also I removed the air filter, sprayed starting fluid inside and cranked it. It wanted to go but of course it will not go on starting fluid alone. This leads me to believe it has something to do with the fuel injectors. Maybe a module or a relay of some sort that controls the injectors. I can't see all 6 of the injectors themselves failing at once. What controls them and where can they be found? Thanks for the reply.

Answer
Mike,

There is the cam position sensor that provides information to fire the injectors.  If you have pressure and they are not firing the computer is not receiving information to fire the plugs.  This information should be provided by the distributor.
