Nissan Repair: removal of torque converter from drive plate, torque conveter, torque converter

Question
QUESTION: how do I remove the torque converter from the drive plate on a 95 6 cylinder pickup, while still in the truck.

ANSWER: Tony,

You have to purchase long bolts, that is what I did when I worked at the dealership.  The extra long bolts allow you to move the transmission back enough to get the torque converter back.  I would purchase bolts that are six or eight inches longer than factory ones.  Then remove all the bolts holding the transmission to the engine.  Remove the driveshaft and pull the transmission back.  Of course you need to disconnect the shifter, crossmember and other connectors and the dip stick tube.  But, after that the transmission will move back enough with the long bolts to get the torque converter off the transmission pump and then you can unbolt it from the flexplate.  Or, you could just remove the transmission and be done with it.  I like the cheater way we used at the dealership.

QUESTION: Icant get the bolts removed from the torque conveter from the flexplate.

Answer
Tony,

If the torque converter bolts are stuck you could remove the transmission and then get a cutting torch and cut the bolts off.  Now, get new fastners and install a new converter.  The converter will come out of the transmission with no fastner removal.  Make sure you rotate the converter when you install it.  Lubricate the surface and continue to spin it as you push it in until it gets to the second detent.  This is where it drives the pump.  Or, it will not fit against the flex plate.  It will be loo long and the bellhousing bolts will not pull the transmission tight to the engine.  If this is found stop and spin and press the converter more against the transmission.
