Nissan Repair: car messed up, weird sound, diesel

Help I am girl who know nothing about cars so I am gonna try to explain it. I notice my car was making a weird sound which i personally would describe between a knocking and dragging sound at low speeds. when I turned the wheel at low speeds like to back out of driveway it would make the faster clicking sound. when i had my boyfriend drive it he compared the dragging sound i heard to a diesel idle like a cluttering or clacking??? im not sure on that seeing how im oblivious to car sounds. Anyways as we were driving home we pulled on our road we heard the fast clicking sound, applied the break to turn on our road. the clicking stopped and the car died. when we tried to crank it back up it made a horrible squeaking sound and would not stay cranked.What is wrong?

First of all - what kind of car do you have? Make, model and year?

Secondly, did the car overheat at any time? Does it not run now? If it does, does it run rough?

Let me know - the more info you can get me, the better.
