Nissan Repair: nissan tino (y reg), fuel pressure regulator, nissan tino

My tino has just developed a problem over the last week, sometimes it goes fine other times it just aint got no go. from 1st gear pedal on the floor and the car wont go over 5-10 mph and all this  white smoke comes out the back, getting worse as time goes on, it diesel.

From the smoking and the lack of power I would think over-rich as in the fuel pressure regulator has hung or an injector or two are hanging.  The last thing you say "it diesel"; and that is why I will assume it is a diesel.  If not, email me back and we'll look at petrol version issues.
