Nissan Repair: transmission, 2003 nissan altima, nissan altima

My 2003 Nissan Altima will not go into drive on cold mornings for about 10-15 minutes, but rest of day no problem with the automatic transmission.  If I drive the car late at night, it doesn't take as long to get it into drive in morning.....please help!  It shifts into reverse and 1st gear but not drive in morning.

Hi Beverly -

There are a couple things I can recommend short of a transmission overhaul.

First of all, I am assuming that the transmission oil is at its proper level.

If the oil smells burnt or is on the brown side (instead of the normal red color), replace it, change the filter, and try it again.

A great product which has often worked for me, with the symptoms you describe, is an additive called AT-205. Here in Hawaii Carquest sells it, but I am assuming others have it. It has worked wonders for me.
