Nissan Repair: belt?, dash lights, dash board

Question
QUESTION: I have taken my 1995 to several different shops including an electrical shop and everytime they say it's fixed, the same thing happens, the belt pops and all the icons on the dash board show up and the car eventually stops. I have spent thousands, so i won't have to buy a new car, and i still can't figure it out! Should i just buy a new car.

ANSWER: Hi Sheriece -

What model 1995 Nissan do you have?

Are you saying the belt comes of on its own when driving? Does it squeal or make any kind of noise?

Please get back to me, i would like to assist you with this -

QUESTION: It's a 1995 Maxima, and yes it squeals when it first comes on. I have taken it to the shop at the 3 or for times, and they have said it's a variety of things; alternator, battery, but when i lifted the hood i notice the belt wasn't on. I took it back to the shop paid an additional 75.00 and a day later as previously the belt pops or comes off and the car sounds like it has cut off. all the icons on the dash board light up.

Hope this helps.

Answer
Hi Sheriece

Thanks for the info. It seems to me you have misaligned pulleys for the belt. When the belt comes off, the alternator is no longer chargeing the battery, so that is why you have all the dash lights in, and problems with starting. Once the belt deal is repaired, the rest of the issues go away.

So, is there anyone that can check the alignment of all the pulleys the belt goes on? Obviously there is something that is causing the belt to slip off the pulley(s).

I am assuming you have the splined belt as opposed to the older "v" type?
