Nissan Repair: Key FOB for Nissan Altima 2006 - Programming not successful, interior illumination, nissan altima

Question
QUESTION: Hello, I have followed the same steps as mentioned in the site to program the key fob I bought online. The hazard lamps flash initially when the key is taken in and out. However, after that pressing any button on the FOB will not result in any hazard lamp flashes. Can you help

ANSWER: Sridhar,

Try the following:

The horn chirp can be disable by pressing the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously until the hazard lights flash, and no enable press the lock and unlock until the horn chirp.
To reprogram (enter new ID) key fob (keyless remote controller) follow the steps.
1. Close all doors and lock all doors
2. Insert and remove the key from the ignition key cylinder more than six times within 10 seconds.
(The hazard warning lamp will then flash.)
   NOTE:
Key should be withdrawn from ignition key cylinder completely each time.
   NOTE:
Do not rush the insertion/removal key cycling process. The side
marker/tail/license lamps and interior illumination will flash twice when this step is
   accurately completed.
3.  Insert key on ignition key cylinder and turn ignition key switch to "AAC" position
At this time, the new ID code is entered and original (previous) ID codes are erase.
4.  Press any button on the new remote controller once. (The hazard warning lamp will then flash)
    NOTE:
Do not press the button more than one time in the above step. If the button
is pressed more than one time, the programming procedure will not be successful.
The side marker/tail/license lamps and interior illumination will flash twice when this
step is accurately completed and programming is successful.
If there is only one remote controller skip  step 5.
         5. Additional  ID code entry
Release the door lock, then lock again with door lock/unlock switch
         (In power window main switch)
6.  Remove key from ignition
7.  Unlock driver side door, open driver side door and then close the door. (END)
    NOTE:
If you need to activate more than two additional new remote controllers, repeat
the procedure on step 5 "Additional ID code entry" for each new remote controller.
    NOTE:
Entry of maximum four ID codes is allowed and any attempt to enter more will be ignore.

QUESTION: Von,

Appreciate your quick reply. I didnot understand what you meant by "The horn chirp can be disable by pressing the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously until the hazard lights flash, and no enable press the lock and unlock until the horn chirp."

I tried exactly the steps you have mentioned here. Everything goes fine until Step 4. In step 4 when I press any button, there is no hazard lamp flash or any indication that it is successful. I am badly stuck with the FOB. Please help

ANSWER: Try these different procedures to get your remote to work.  You cannot have more than 4 remotes in teh system.  If all have been allocated you will need to erase and start the following.

steps to program a remote, annoying but easy
step 1: get into the drivers seat, lock the door with the main switch
step2: put the key in and out of the ignition slot approx 8 times, you’ll see the hazard lights flash
step 3: after the hazards flash put the key in the ignition and turn to the on position
step 4: unlock and lock the door using the main door switch
step 5: press lock button on remote
step 6: unlock and lock the door using the main door switch
--- if using multiple remotes go to step 7, if only one go to step 8
step 7: if program multiple remotes hit the lock button on the second remote, then lock and unlock the door with the main door switch
----
step 8: turn key to off and remove from ignition
step 9: unlock the door with the main door switch
step 10: open and close the drivers door

try the remote and it should work

QUESTION: Thank you very much for your time. Unfortunately this procedure was not successful too. Can you tell me if there is any other way ?

Answer
Sridhar,

If the process is not successful you need to go to a dealer and have them hook up a Consult II scantool and have them do an erase on the codes presently stored.  Then, they should be able to program your remote.  Lastly, if this is unsuccessful you are looking at a Body Control Module replacement.
