Nissan Repair: service engine light on, emission control system, nissan sentra

Question
QUESTION: 2004 nissan sentra with 56,000 km on it

my service engine warning light came on and stayed on.. please help

i checked the gas cap is tight

what other problems can it be and how can i fix it.. if possible ?

ANSWER: Hi Francis -

The Service engine light is driven by hundreds of sensors that monitor the engine and report to the computer on regular intervals. The only way to find out what is making that light illuminate is to do an OBD test with a special diagnostic device that will plug in to the engine. Some auto repair shops have them.

If you get the code out, I can tell you what it means.

QUESTION: hi calvin

he got the light off.. he said if the light goes on again you need to fix this

P0455 the guy writes pretty bad.. looks like evaporative emission control system something like that

what is it ? Is it expensive

Answer
Hi Francis -

Code PO455 means Evaporative Emission Control System leak detected. Looks like one of the components for this system is compromised, or not working properly.

Let me know if the light returns, and I will try to get you a diagram or something to make it easier to find.

Hope this helps -
