Nissan Repair: 95 Nissan altima wont start, nissan altima, low oil pressure

Question
My '95 has been missing the last few months.Today it left
me stranded and I had to be towed. Car has gas and a strong
battery..I suspect a fuel pump /fuel pump fuse. Your ideas
for me to troubleshoot ?? Will Low oil pressure cause this as well ??      Help much appreciated  !!

Answer
Hi Bill -

Check for spark first.

Pull out a spark plug boot and insert a screwdriver until it wedges against the terminal inside. Hold the shaft of the driver about 1/4" away from any metal surface of the vehicle while a helper tries to start the car (do not touch any metal surface while doing this). If you see a spark jumping between the 2 metal surfaces, then all ignition and electrical are good, and then you can proceed to check the fuel pump.

The best way to check the pump initially is to have someone turn the ignition on while you go to the rear of the car and listen for the pump motor in the gas tank. If you cannot hear anything, then pull out a fuel line and do the same test. If there is no fuel, then replace the pump.

Hope this helps -
