Nissan Repair: Nissan PathFinder back wiper, nissan pathfinder, rear tailgate

Question
Hi,
I have a Nissan Pathfinder LE 1998 with a back wiper that does not work. It appears the motor is weak. Car garage's want a substantial amount to fix/replace the motor. I can get a motor cheaper from a wrecker but do not know how to go about fix/replacing it. Would you be able to provide some guidance keeping in mind that I'm a novice at fixing cars.
Thanks
 Francis

Answer
Hi Francis -

The rear tailgate panel will have to be removed to get to the motor. It is usually held by plastic snaps or screws. If it is snaps, use a putty knife or wide chisel, otherwise you will damage the panel. Once the panel is removed, you can access the motor. I am assuming you have a set of basic tools? I think the motor is held by 10MM bolts. Remove the motor, linkage, and wire carefully, noting how it is assembled, as you will have to remember when re-assembling.

Hope this helps -
