Nissan Repair: 03 murano xenon headlight out, xenon bulbs, factory bulbs

Question
QUESTION: hi my light began to go out every once in a great while about a year ago.this only happened 2 to 3 times but i would turn it off and on and it would be fine. i figured it would eventually go out .now its out for good and cant afford diagnosis charges plus parts.do u think its my ballast or bulb.my friend tryed 2 seperate bulbs he had from his honda that he says are actually nissan oem bulbs from when he worked at nissan but neither one worked on my car.he said they where good bulbs so im left thinking its something else. i have the nissan security plus warranty but not sure if its covered and cant afford to pay diagnostic charges if its not because i cant afford there prices to repair either right now. what is your opinion. thanks alot for your time.may god bless you for taking time out to help people.

ANSWER: Demetrius,

Xenon bulbs are not covered unless specifically mentioned.  I had the warranty and they were not.  Anyway, courtesyparts.com is a good source for factory bulbs and ballasts.  If the bulbs were replaced and no light means the ballast.  But, you are going to need to check to make sure the ballast is getting power.  Do, not touch the working end of the ballast since it puts out enough voltage to hurt you.  You are just looking at the two wires that feed the circuit on low beam.  Check and see if you get 12 volts.  If you do then the ballast is indeed defective.  If not, the headlight relay or headlight switch is defective.  Also, you could check on ebay for aftermarket HID systems.  Both sides can be purchased for under $100 bucks for aftermarket replacements.  You friend could just cut the harness and wire them in...

QUESTION: hi i wound up replacing my whole headlight assembly for cheap from ebay and still same problem,daytime/parking light and turn signal work but not the main xenon light. is there a fuse to this or is it a relay, and what should i do.thanks

ANSWER: Demetrius,

There is a fuse for both the left and right headlamp.  These are wired seperatly.  I would not imagine the fuse to be blown on such a new model.  But, if the ballast on the old headlight cooked it could have popped the fuse too.  Under the hood you will find the two fuses.  If the fuses are good then you have a defective headlight switch.

QUESTION: sorry ,one more thing,i cant find wich fuse is the headlight fuse ,the fuse box details dont have any headlight info, and also is a relay the samething as the headlight switch,my upper light [parking light] comes on when i turn the switch to on is that wired seperatly. thanks

Answer
Demetrius,

There is a headlight fuse and it should be under the hood.  There is a fuse for left and right headlights.  There is a black box that contains fuses and relays.  If it is not a defective fuse then it will be the headlight switch.  I can't imagine the fuse would be under the dash.  But, stranger things have happened.  So, check for a fuse before you replace the headlight switch.  The owners manual is a good place to locate where the fuse is.
