Nissan Repair: 04 Nissan Sentra 1.8 engine problem, mass airflow sensor, nissan sentra

Question
When I step on the gas after waiting for a red light, I get no response and the engine dies. The car drifts a little bit though and the engine light turns on as well. This also happens sometimes when I let go of the gas to have the car cruise downhill, or on a straight, when I step on the gas again, I would get no response. Since the Engine light is turned on, if I were to take it back to the dealership it would cost me 80+$'s just to check and not fix, so it would really be helpful if you know or can find out what's wrong with my car.

Answer
Aaron,

Unfortunately, I would only be guessing since you have not provided a code.  In the United States Autozone and Checker will read the codes for free.  I would think you could go to harborfreight.com and purchase the low cost code reader for $65 Dollars US and read your own codes.  Otherwise, you are going to have to get the codes read so we can tell what is going on.  My thought would be the mass airflow sensor.  But, I am not going to recommend replacement since no codes were given.  A Haynes Manual is an excellent investment at about $20 Dollars US to provide diagnostic procedures.  Anyway, let me know what you find and we'll go from there...
