Nissan Repair: water problem nissan serena, radiator cap, nissan serena

Question
QUESTION: i have had dripping from below the engine for a while now but recently it has started taking a litre of water a day water in the reservoir isnt getting used front heater blows cold air rear heater blows hot air radiator cap also now lets water out because of continualy taking it of to add water. there is no water in the oil either. temp gauge reads just below red.when it goes into red it then drops quickly to normal  but the starts to rise again

ANSWER: Hi Lee -

Please check your water pump for leaks. If you are losing that much a day, there should be some dripping going on underneath the car. Take note where it is, and if it is directly under the pulley, then it is the water pump, or hose in the near vicinity. The reason why you are not using water in the reservoir is because you have a compromise in the closed system of the cooling loop, and the water is not sucking back in the engine from the reservoir.

Hope this helps -

QUESTION: A compromise is that a air pocket in the system or is the leak a
compromise .sorry to be a nuissance.

Answer
Hi Lee -

Compromise means a leak. Normally the cooling system is sealed. When it heats up, the water expands and feeds the reservoir, filling it up. As the engine cools it contracts, and is supposed to suck the water back in the system so you do not lose any water. When you have a leak in the system, it does not suck back in, causing loss of water. Look for the leak and let me know -'
