Nissan Repair: Auto will not start, nissan maxima se, defective alternator

Question
I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima SE with 81,000 miles and just recently began experiencing a problem starting the vehicle. A month ago I replaced the battery and the mechanic said that was the problem. It ran well and seemed to hold the charge for two weeks. AFter 2 weeks it would not start again and I took it to the garage and the mechanic said the alternator was not putting anything out. After 2 weeks it would not start again. Towing company came and jump started and it started as soon as he put the cables on the battery posts. Any suggestions on what to look for? Does it sound like a short and where would you suggest looking>

Answer
Hi Wayne -

There could be a power drain somewhere in the electrical system. Thus requires some special devices, and a repuitable repair shop.

The other thing it could be is a defective alternator. Have you checked that possibility? Happens more that one would think. Have a repair shop do a field test on both that and the battery.

Hope this helps -
