Nissan Repair: speedometer, cable issues, speedometer

the speedometer on my 1997 truck xe sometimes just sits there or
shoots up to the speed i am going.How hard is this to fix ?

Hi Gary -

Looks like you have cable issues. To get to it, you have to remove the instrument panel and unclip the housing to get to the cable. This is located directly behind the odometer. Once the housing id unclipped, remove the cable with a long nose plier, then inspect it for fraying and dryness. When replacing, coat it with a non residue lubricant, such as silicone or graphite.

You would also want to check the transmission end. Remove the cable housing and check the gear, a lot of times teeth are missing because it is only plastic. When replacing, ensire that the cable fits well into the gear.
