Nissan Repair: Automatic Transmission shift, nissan altima, shift lights

Question
Hi. I have two problems with my Nissan Altima GXE 1997 model. Its run 122K. The automatic transmission shift lights do not come on- both on panel and on lever base. Secondly, I see a Service Engine Soon indicator steady.

Answer
Hi Chaks -

The SES light comes on when one of the many ensors you have in your engine detects an abnormality somewhere. Most of the time it is not a serious problem, however it is wise to have it checked. There are hundreds of codes that it could represent, and the best way to get it is to take it to a competent auto repair place and get it checked. Then it will tell you exaclty what is wrong with your vehicle. Auto Zone is pretty good.

Also, perhaps if it is a VSS or some other transmission related code, both your problems could be related.

Let me know how it goes -
hope this helps -
