Nissan Repair: NISSAN ENGINE, engine oil pan, nissan primera 2001

Question
MY NISSAN PRIMERA 2001 IS MAKING A RATTLING NOISE WHICH YOU CAN HEAR MORE CLEARLY ONCE PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR SLIGHTLY. WHAT COULD THAT BE?

Answer
Mohammad,

If the noise is coming from the bottom of the engine it could be the rod or main bearings.  If the noise follows the RPMs up and down it is a rod bearing if it is constant it is a main bearing.  If the noise is coming from the front of the engine and you have a timing chain it is mprbably that.  From the year, I do not know the miles, it is probably rod or main related if it is a knock.  If it is a rattle and not a knock then you have options like a loose exhaust or a broken engine or transmission mount that is allowing engine movement and that would cause an interference condition resulting in a rattle.  The best diagnosis is to get the vehicle on a lift and run the engine.  If you have a long screwdriver you can place the pointed end on the engine oil pan and the other end to your ear and listen to locate the noise.  Email me back if you need more information.
