Nissan Repair: 1987 Pathfinder, rev limiter, pathfinder

Question
Hi, I have a pathfinder with the 2.4z and a manual Trans.  whenever it gets up to a certain RPM (I'm thinking about 3,200 or so, but theres no tach) it wants to cut out.  The feeling is like driving a vehicle and having the rev limiter kick in.  I've had quite a few people look at it and no one can figure it out.  I do know that it happened to the guy I bought it from.  All that he can remember though is it was something simple like a plug or a connection of some sorts.  Any help would be great, I love this thing but its not really worth sinking a bunch of money into!

Answer
Duncan,

Remove and disassemble the distributor.  There is probably oil on the optical shutter wheel, under the distributor cover.  To get to it you have to remove the rotor post and then the cover.  If there is oil, and there probably is, replace the distributor with a rebuilt unit.  Your problem should be solved...  Email me back if you need more.
