Nissan Repair: Nissan Sunny changing gears, 100km, freeway

Question
Hello.  I just bought a 2005 automatic Nissan Sunny with 43000km on it.  I noticed that it changes from 1st to 2nd gear at approx 25-30km/h and 2nd to 3rd gear at approx 45-50km/h but it wont change to the next gear even when I push it up to 100km/h and it revs up to approx 4000rms.  Does this have anything to do with the O/D being off?  Can you tell me how to turn it on?  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Jen -

Yes, it is because the O/D is off. Usually there is a button you press near the shifter. Sometimes it is on the shifter and sometimes it is on the console.

The O/D (Overdrive) kicks the transmission into a higher gear during freeway driving so you can save on gasoline. During stop and go traffic, though it could work the opposite, so it is usually off.

Hope this helps -
