Nissan Repair: 1997 Nissan Pickup Steering Wheel Removal, nissan king cab, hurricane fay

Question
I have a 1997 Nissan King Cab 4WD Pickup that recently was submerged by hurricane Fay. I an trying to get the steering wheel off and have a after the market manual and have read post here on how to take off the steering wheel. All info says to remove the bolt on either the back or bottom of the steering wheel, problem is I have no bolts there.

Any help will be greatly appreciated and as a side not. At over 250,000 miles this and having to replace the starter is the only problems I ever had with this truck.

Answer
Hi Tom -

First of all there should be some screws that hold the horn assembly in place on the steering wheel. It should be located in the back of the wings of the wheel. What you are trying to do is locate the hold down for the trim on the front of the wheel. Once that is removed, you can access the large single bolt that holds down the wheel.

You will, however need a steering wheel puller. Get this from any auto parts store. Remove that center bolt, and attach the puller and slowly remove the wheel.

Hope this helps -
