Nissan Repair: gear shift, shift gear, brake switch

My 2002 Nissan setra GXE shift gear is sticking after I start the engine and when I try to put the gear into reverse it gets stuck and I have to play with the shift for awhile before it moves. What could be the problem and what do I do to solve it?

Either the brake pedal switch, the one that allows the shifter to move, is defective.  Or, the shifter is dry and needs to be lubricated or the solenoid on the shifter needs to be replaced.  If a Coke or other beverage has been spilled on the shifter could cause the shifter to stick.  I have seen this too many times.  Otherwise it is the solenoid that releases the shifter or the brake switch.
