Nissan Repair: 97 altima, nissan altima, car radiator

Question
i have a 97 nissan altima that wont stop overheating whats the problem i keep putting antifreeze but it still happens. also now its starting to make a loud squeeking sound when turning what can that be?

Answer
Hi Jennifer -

I suspect you have a leak somewhere since you have to keep adding antifreeze. I also think you have a leak where the antifreeze is leaking on your power steering belt, causing it to slip and squeak.

The best way to check for a leak is to pressure test the cooling system. This can be done at any reputable repair shop, or a pressure tester can be purchased at an auto parts store.

If you want to check it yourself, ensure that the radiator is full with coolant. Inspect all hoses for leaks, also looking under the car if there is any dripping of coolant. If there is none, pressurize the system by running the car (radiator cap on) for a few minutes. Inspect for leaks again, paying particular attention to the timing cover area, and the hoses. If there is a leak, it should appear this way.

Let me know haw this goes and please get back to me -
