Nissan Repair: OD, nissan owners, high speeds

Question
Good Morning Calvin,
I have a 200 Maxima, automatic. What is the function of the O/D button? I've beeen told that I should use O/D only when I'm on the highway. Also, is there a gas savings either way?
The manual didn't come with the car. Is it online somwhere?
Thanks, Bob

Answer
Hi Bob -

The Overdrive (OD) button is for a higher gear when you are traveling at higher speeds. This is actually another gear above drive that allows the car to travel at faster speeds with lower RPM's and yes, resulting in some gasoline savings. It is usually turned off in city driving because it will actually use more gas when not sustained at high speeds.

As for a manual, I am sure you can find something on line, try www.edmunds.com, or there is a site exclusively for Nissan owners - www.nicoclub.com.

Hope this helps -
aloha
