Nissan Repair: Maxima stalls awhile driving, nissan maxima, indicator lights

Question
QUESTION: Need help!

my 1996 Nissan Maxima (165K) will stall awhile driving.  Not sure what is happening.  All the indicator lights will come on, steering wheel will lock up, and car will just stop.

Please help.

ANSWER: Hi Dave -

Two questions - does it stall only when warmed up? Can it be restarted right away, or do you have to wait a while?

could be the ignition module in the distributor.

get back to me -
thanks

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: the car was warm since i drove about 20 miles before the car stalled.  i can start the car right away, but i always had the problem of starting the car in the past.  i just changed the starter not too long ago and my mechanic indicated that i had a "knocking" issue that prompt the check engine light.  i did not fix the "knocking" but he just reset the check engine light.

i read online that maxima will have problem with the MAF around 150~200K miles.  can that be it?

please help.

Answer
Hi Dave -

Because it starts right away, could be the MAF, but I still think the module being the culprit is not out of the question. I would go ahead and relace the MAF first. That's probably it, and the car will also start better too. These intermittent issues are the hardest to catch.
