Nissan Repair: 1993 Nissan Sentra (rough idle, wont stay running), nissan sentra, haynes manual

Question
Von,
Thank you in advance for your time.
I have a 1993 Nissan Sentra SE which I bought new...
It ran like a top, idling at 600 rpms, no problem, great acceleration, super smooth transmission.  My emissions inspection report brought up the fact that I should give it a tune-up, at least spark plugs.
I went ahead and bought some E3 Y-gap spark plugs.  I bought a distributor, rotor, and spark plug wiring harness.  I put it all back together.  I had the wrong sequence in the wiring, though......
Now that I have the proper sequence, my car will start but won't stay "on"/idling.  It's extremely rough.  I went ahead and bought some generic, platinum spark plugs in case the E3s are "too much"/not good for my little car; already replaced the E3s.
Any thoughts?  Did I fry the sequence?  Can the sequence be reset?  If so, how?  Again, the car starts (barely, with some praying), but unless I pump the gas while it's on, forget it!
I'm only 1 mile from my mechanic, so I think I can make it there.
Starter is 2 years old.  Battery is one year old.  Should I check for a "vacuum leak" even though the car ran PRRRRRfectly beforehand?
Thank you for your help!!!
Oscar.

Answer
Oscar,

The firing order needs to be adjusted again.  I would get a Haynes Manual and look at the photograph and follow the diagram and do another rewire of the cap.  You are probaly one off on the cap and that is what is causing the car to run bad.  Email me back and let me know.
