Nissan Repair: 96 altima running rough-no power- stalls, engine sounds, trouble code

Question
96 altima, i went through the other post and found something  i believe is close- engine sounds like its bogging down and it is loosing power ( ease of the pedal and its stops bogging down but you slow down) it did it a little and i made it home 50 miles, now it seem to happen all the time when it gets warmed up, now it will even stall out at idle.  What i gave done so far - Fuel filter same, then plugs rotor dist cap same, and even went as far as filling it up and putting dry gas in it thinking i got a bad batch of gas same / worse , none of it worked as a matter of fact it got worse.  But there is NO check engine lite on, i cant drive it to the auto parts store to see if there is any  codes in it,  i dont think it will make it.  I dont have a fuel presure gauge.  So any way in your experience have you ever seen this before, i cant be the first or the only one can I?  the other post that sounded similar to mine said fuel pump.  I believe you said it was in the tank? but can it be a sensor, can they be intermitten like this? and generate no trouble code no check engine lite? im stuck......but i will order the book now

Answer
Hi Pete -

Have you checked the exhaust system if it is plugged? Sure sounds like it. I do not think it is the fuel pump.

Check the exhaust system and get back to me. You will need a helper to stay in the car abd rev the engine while you place your hand at the end of the tailpipe. If there is little or no pressure, or if you hear a hissing sound, then your exhaust system is plugged.

Hope this helps -
