Nissan Repair: 1996 Nissan Pickup Distributor Replacement, nissan pickup, timing tools

Question
Von,

The truck has 163K.

A few months back I replaced the battery, battery wires and alternator.

With that said, lately the truck has seemed to have issues starting. Sounds like the battery is dying and the starter slows.
The other day it died. I can hear the click when I turn the key. Battery is good.

So I had to towed. Dealer says that starter is bad. Ok, so I am having them replace it.
They also say that it sounds like a bearing is going bad in the distributor, but want a fortune for it, the rotor, cap, wires, etc...

How hard is it to replace the distributor?
Is it as easy as removing the cap, rotor, and 2 bolts on the distributor? If so, since it only goes in 1 of 2 ways, is there a way to tell which exact way, and do I have to time the truck?
I don't have any timing tools, and I am thinking that if it only goes in 1 of 2 ways, it shouldn't get out of time?

Thanks,
Tony

Answer
Tony,

Get one from rockauto.com and do it yourself.  You sound like you have this down and do replace it the same way it came out.  Just two ways to get it in so note the location of the rotor and where it is pointing and put the other one in the same way.  Then time the car with a timing light.
