Nissan Repair: 85 Nissan 300ZX not turbo, nissan 300zx, clutch pedal

Question
Von,
The Cruise control on my Z is no longer working. Light comes on and then no response to the button press.  One mechanic diagnosed that the computer that controls it is kaput. He has proven to be expensive and diagnoses with questionable problems.  Could it just be a fuse? How much does it cost to replace the computer?  Are they available?
thanks, michael

Answer
Michael,

The computer could be the problem.  But, I would check the brake pedal and clutch pedal switches.  That is, if you have a manual.  If an automatic only the brake pedal will have a switch to cut off the cruise control.  Now, if the switch(s) are find then the computer is defective most probably.  Not getting a look at the car I would check the actuator too.  Try the internet or a local wrecking yard.  courtesynissan.com is a good source and they sell for jobber price if you want new.  Oh, if the light comes on it is not a fuse.
