Nissan Repair: 1993 Nissan pathfinder 4WD, lockup torque converter, nissan pathfinder

Question
I have a 1993 Nissan Pathfinder which has had a cracked rear main seal for a while. Until i can afford the repair, I have diligently checked & replaced the oil. I have had no other major problems with the engine. This morning I stalled out while at a red light & the A/T Oil Temp light came on. I turned off the engine, restarted, and stalled out again when I put it in Drive. It runs fine in Park. I had just put more oil in a week ago and then my boyfriend put another quart in yesterday.  The oil stick reads a little over high- could  too much oil cause the temp to go up and stall the engine?

Answer
Marisa,

The rear seal on the engine and the automatic transmission seals are two different things.  If the engine is not over a half quart overfilled it should not hurt the engine.  But, if the automatic transmission light is on from heat then you need to have the transmission looked at.  If the engine dies when you put it in gear could mean that the lockup torque converter has stuck.  Or the sensor that applies is is stuck.
