Nissan Repair: Nissan Maxima 1991 rear spoiler light, nissan maxima, rear spoiler

Question
My 1991 Maxima has a rear spoiler with integrated brake light. The light has stopped working and the car cannot be registered without it being fixed. According to the mechanic the bulb is fine, it is a wiring issue. Is this something I can fix myself?

Answer
Hi John -

Have you checked the fuse? Sometimes there is a separate fuse fopr the 3rd brake light.

Open the trunk, and locate the wire that goes to the spoiler. Remove the wire at the terminal. Get a light circuit tester or volt meter and have someone apply the brakes while you check the wire for power. If there is power, then replace the bulb. If there is no power, then you will have to trace the line back to see where the break is at. Sometimes it is easier just to splice it in to the regular brake light wiring (I am assuming that works).

Hope this helps -
