Nissan Repair: Fuel Pump Relay, nissan sentra, fuel pump relay

Question
I have a 2003 Nissan Sentra GXE, my car ran out of fuel a couple of weeks ago and we put more in it, went to crank it, and the gas is not connecting. You can get it to turn but it wont turn all the way over. The battery is fine, the gas is just not getting from a to b. I just wanted to know if maybe you think its the relay switch or the fuel pump?

Answer
Hi Christi -

First of all, please check to see if the fuel pump is getting power when you are cranking the engine. Best way is to intercept one of the wires that goes to the fuel pump in the tank. Use a 12V circuiit light tester, and probe the wires. If there is power, and you do not hear the pump going, then it is the fuel pump.

How about if you prime the engine - does it start? If so, that confirms it.

As for the fuel relay, it rarely goes out. You can check it the same way, though, with the test lamp.

Hope this helps -
