Nissan Repair: Altima 2000 Manual - Dashboard power, malfunction indicator light, car indicator

Question
Hello:
I have a 2000 Altima Stickshift. Since last 6 months all the dashboard indicators (fuel dial, speed dial, rpm dial, digital odometer) die suddenly if the car has been driven for 1 hour or if the car has been sitting in the sun. The engine runs without any issues even when the dashboard indicators ae off. All the indicators start functioning allright by themselves after some time. Never had a problem of the car not starting. The engine temperature indicator has never shown too be hot. The service car indicator has been showing since last 3 months. Any insights?

Answer
Naren,

Autozone or Checker will check the Malfunction Indicator Light for free.  Also, you can disconnect the battery for a few minutes to get it to clear.  If it comes back you will know there is a problem.  The cluster problem is probably the connection to the cluster.  Remove the cluster and clean the connector and the harness connector with a number 2 pencil eraser by lightly rubbing the contacts and then blow off the dust and reinstall.  If that does not work then the cluster has a problem with the transformer on the back of the unit.  Either have the unit repaired or get one at a wrecking yard and replace yours.
